Update 3 from Red Bull Snowscrapers in NY

Wrapping up the behind the scenes look, Red Bull Snowscrapers turned out to be what it promised – a massive spectacle. Throngs of snowboard enthusiasts, as well as plainly curious New Yorkers converged on Manhattan’s East River Park on a very cold winter night. Did I say it was cold?  The temperature was hovering at about 10 degrees, with a soul-piercing wind coming off the East River that made it feel like 10 below. Once inside the event I managed to meet up with Travis for a few minutes just before the top 8 sessions began.  I said “H-H-H-Hey Travis”; Travis said “Hey, Grant”.  Then I said “C-C-C-Can I get a picture of you for the Q-Q-Quiksilver blog?”  And then he said “Are you ok Grant?”  I was about to respond when he was bum-rushed by a gaggle of digital camera toting Red Bull girls, and was able to snap only a quick Travis-in-the-headlights pic before he was overcome.  But being the gregarious superstar he is, he posed, sticking his tongue out for every glittering flashbulb – right before getting on the elevator that would take him 9 stories up to the top of the jump. I spent the rest of the event shuffling my feet in 6-inches of snow through the completion of the finals, but was finally forced to leave because I was being frostbitten on my big toe, and on the index finger of my right hand.  But the event was as hot as it was cold, and surely the town of New York City has a new respect for professional snowboarding, as well as for the daredevil ostentation and insanity that characterizes action sports. So, California here I come.  Anyone up for skating the curb at Quiksilver, preferably in shorts and a t-shirt? As always, Grant Snowscrapers Results: 1. Shayne Pospisil 2. Torstein Horgmo 3.
