Tim O'Connor Blogs from the Midwest Skate Tour

Check out this video from the final stop on the tour and blog from the hilarious Tim O'Connor. Tour photos from Joe Hammeke are below. In June 2008 A.D. Quiksilver set out for a midwestern skate tour extravaganza with a healthy chunk of the team cruising around in the world renowned Quiksilver RV. All of the RV's passengers were looking magnificent and all the while complimenting one another on their ridiculously good looking Quiksilver attire. (I might have just gotten myself a raise with that last sentence?) I actually flew in a day earlier than everyone else to Lexington, Kentucky to meet up with one of the Quik reps named E.B. I had to be in a little earlier so that I could go on the local news with Alan, the owner of the Cosmic shops, and give the masses some extra media notification of the festivities that would be taking place while we were in town. A lot of people knew about the whole deal already but we wanted to bless the couch potatoes with the knowledge of our presence as well. We did the T.V. interview and blew the anchorman away with our amazing verbiage and dashing good looks. When the interview was done everybody in the studio gave us a standing ovation as we walked out of the room in slo-mo. More Quiksilver-ians started to show up later on this day. The head honchos...Rick Banta, Tom Holbrook and of course our favorite human behind the RV wheel was there....Modaddy!!!! My fellow skateboarding comrades came out of the airport too. Alex Olson, Reese Forbes, Justin Brock, Jake Johnson, and David Clark showed up and not too much later in the evening after their arrival we were aboard the RV headed to a moonshine party in Bourbon, Kentucky. We followed Alan in his replica Scooby Doo Mystery Machine van all the way to the outdoor shindig. A 13 year old kid picked us all up in a big ass truck at the gates of the compound and shipped us down to where one of the biggest bonfires ever witnessed was going to be set ablaze. Don and Debbie Dyer were kind enough to have us on their gigantic estate so that we could suck down some adult beverages and get weird. Well things definitely got weird. I swigged away at the moonshine one too many times. (More than one drop of moonshine in your mouth qualifies as one too many sips) The bonfire was ignited and we all drank happy juice and ate some of the best BBQ my tastebuds have ever come into contact with. Although I would later be throwing all of this food up on the RV....it was good going down. David Clark and Jake Johnson found a mud pit where they got into it and wrestled each other until they had mud everywhere. Even on their teeth. There were some bales of hay around and I grabbed some handfuls and slapped them all over David and Jake thus creating some sort of tar and feather look. After this I blacked out and the next thing I knew was that I was walking to my hotel room with my pants at my ankles. I passed out and eagerly awaited my next day in Kentucky while I was in a moonshine induced coma. Much thanks to Alan and his wife and Don and Debbie Byer for a memorable evening. --Tim O'Connor
