Wrap Up Of The Quiksilver Rincon Classic Presented By Channel Islands

After only 3 weeks into the 6 week waiting period, The Quiksilver Rincon Classic Presented By Channel Islands took place this past weekend.  In summer like weather and pumping surf, it seemed that the entire surf community came out for the two day event. With 13 divisions the event sold out immediately with over 200 surfers wanting their chance to surf uncrowded Rincon.   All of the competitors got either a Quik, Roxy, or Waterman hat when they checked in for the event in addition to a contest tee on a Quik Blank (tees provided by Quik Foundation). There was every one from former world champions like Tom Curren, Shaun Thompson, Margo Oberg, to 8 year old grommets who came out to be a part of the event.  With perfect weather and nearly two days of perfect surf, it is pretty hard to not have a successful event.  However, I would like to recognize Chris Keet and all of his staff who ran such a fantastic event. Quik held it down during the two day event with MoDaddy parking the bus prime time right at the off ramps from the 101, we also had Chris Darrah along with Lauren Tanzer running wetsuit demos for both Quik and Roxy both days,  Peter Mel, Strider, and myself helping the local commentary team which was anchored by Chris Keet, Dave Shauber, and the legendary Chris Brown.  The highlight for me would have to be when an 11 year old grom caught a set wave during the final and rode it from well outside the river mouth all the way into the cove.  The entire beach was applauding as he ran back up the beach. Lets just say that his feet were not touching the ground as he was so stoked.  It was also super cool to see a lot of faces that I have not seen in a while and it seemed that they were just as stoked to see the brands supporting this event in its 28th year. This is a fantastic event and we hope to be a part of it again in 2012.  For complete report, images, and video, please log onto rinconclassic.com. - Todd Kline, Quiksilver
