HBHS Banquet

On Monday May 2nd, Quiksilver Headquarters in Huntington Beach, CA was the scene of the Huntington Beach High School Annual Surf Team Banquet. Dwyer Middle School was also invited. The two schools work hand in hand in developing the young surf talent coming through HB’s education system. Dukes Restaurant prepared a smoking appy entrée of tuna sashimi and poke. The groms and parents tore into the grub that while enjoying Quiksilver’s new patio outdoor patio complete with a new basketball court where kids took part in a scrimmage. Next in the que was TK Burger and the crew got busy getting into that as well. When the awards started it was sure to be Coach Verdones finest moments, he saves his best jokes up for this occasion all year long, and has the audience in stitches! Quiksilver presented a signed KS10 poster to Coach Verdone in honor of his dedication and excellence running such a great program. The Dwyer team was treated to QS backpacks and HBHS was presented with custom QS/Roxy hats which will no doubt be seen around town in the flollowing months. Notable awards for the night went to Kanoa Igarashi for his Middle school victory at States and Mike Peters for Most Improved for Dwyer. HB’s Jake Saenz was awarded Most Improved and delivered a pretty funny speech to boot. The marquee awards are the $1K scolarships Roxy and Quik give out to the highest GPA and these went to Erica Anderson and Derek Peters for their academic prowess. Special thanks to Brett at Dukes, PT, Peter Mel, Lisa Anderson, Michelle, Ryan and Timmy Turner, Bill Sharp, Barry Defenbaugh and Todd Kline for putting on an amazing awards ceremony that will go down in HBHS banquet history.
