Summit Series With Bob McKnight

Summit Series At Sea 2011 with Bob McKnight This year Bob McKnight CEO of Quiksilver was invited to speak to the Summit community. Bob discussed his personal experiences being a CEO of a massive lifestyle brand alongside other industry leaders Element’s Johnny Schilleref and Creative Recreation’s Robert Nand. Bob also explained a few key points on how to create, explore and strengthen a successful lifestyle brand. Thriving in a retail community while staying true to your brand’s ‘core’ was also a hot topic discussed among his panel. Summit Series is about building communities. Every year they bring together innovative young leaders from across the nation to instigate inspiration and creativity. The Summit Series group’s most underlying lesson is helping people and communities less fortunate through acts of charity and cause. This year the Summit team organized a 1,000 person boat cruise docking out of Miami for a weekend excursion of learning, discussing, and integrating. With a 3 day set scheduling of panels lined up with famous entrepreneurs, artists and innovators speaking to the community; participants were encouraged to exchange and visualize idea’s of modernism to improve their companies in a positive way. Bob went shark tagging with a group of specialists on Sunday of the trip. Although like a true Waterman he brought his snorkel and mask thinking he would jump in with the sharks; mild disappointment to stay onboard was replaced with growing interest as he was updated on the importance of shark tagging.
  • Tagging sharks helps us to track their patterns to better understand the changes occurring in our own oceans
  • They regulate the quantity and health of other species of fish and invertebrates by preying on sick, diseased or old animals. The over-fishing of sharks today is already having huge negative effects on our marine environment.
  • The data sent from the tags to the researchers will show the sharks migration patterns, how deep they dive, what temperatures they prefer and more. This information will help countries, governments and researchers to develop better ways to protect these creatures.
  • There are 4 types of tags that help scientists help understand sharks better. Pat, Acoustic, Splash and Spot tags are used to map out the habitat, migration, and eating patterns of these wildly misinterpreted animals.
